EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION

Employee Motivation

Employee Motivation occupies an important place in an organization to perform the whole management process to achieve its desired objectives and goals (Varma, 2017). In this era of a fast-growing competitive business world, every organization is facing numerous challenges to retaining employees. To overcome these challenges, organizations must create and maintain a strong and positive relationship with employees. Organizations believe that motivated and satisfied employees will have a committed approach towards organization objective; to achieve this, organizations motivate employees with monetary and non-monitory benefits (Armstrong, 2014).

Employees who are well-motivated are the most satisfied because they are more involved in their jobs and perform their tasks effectively and efficiently (Armstrong, 2014). keeping employees motivated is always a reward for business to make high productivity and profit. When an employee is motivated, he or she shows enthusiasm and eagerness towards the work and strong determination to implement the tasks assigned to them (Varma, 2017).

There have been many scholars who defined Motivation in various perspectives. Butkus and Green (1999) stated that the word Motivation is derived from a Latin word "Movere"; which means motivation should push or move employees towards interest. Armstrong (2014) defined motivation as concerned with the strength, direction of behaviour to achieve individuals' goals. Motivation is an employee’s innate motivation which execute work-related activities. Motivation is the internal drive by which an individual decides to act. Latham and Pinder (2005) proposed a motivational framework based on needs, traits, values, and cognition because these elements have a direct connection with work motivation.

1.1  Importance of Motivation

In the 21st century, employees are more concerned and expect benefits from the organizations to fulfil their needs. Employees are more educated, knowledgeable, and technological oriented; therefore, every organization give more importance to motivation to retain employees for better productivity and sustainability (liu et al, 2008).

Increase productivity.

Well-motivated employees think innovatively, and they use organization resources in a very cost-effective manner; this will increase the productivity of the company as well as the outcome will be highly effective (Bawa, 2017).

Eg : Dream works animation company provides non-monetary benefits with the moral of "Teams that workout together stays together", the company strongly believe that team work motivates employees, which fosters an engaged workplace culture allowing them to feel valued and their creativity thrive (Henneman, 2012).

Achieve organization goals.

Organizations set SMART objectives to achieve their desired goals by providing employees with a friendly working environment and maintaining a good relationship between operational and top-level management (Joseph, 2015). These aspects will lead employees to work in a smart and proactive manner to achieve the set goals.

Eg : Travel agency company which I work for have monthly sales target to achieve. To achieve the target in challenging environment, top level management maintain positive attitude, good relationship, help employees to understand the purpose of their work, providing employees with some decision-making responsibilities and improved work-life balances. It motivates and satisfy employees to give their best work.

Lower levels of employee turnover

with the fast-paced competitive world organizations always face the challenge of employee turnover; to overcome these challenges organization motivate employees with good working environment, task responsibilities, rewards, and recognition; this will make employees to feel that they were paid more attention towards their performance, and it will satisfy employees inner motivate capabilities to work better rather than leaving the organization (Mamun, 2017).

Eg : According to Fortune, (2021) mentioned Delta airlines as one of the world's best places to work, and it has a 2% employee turnover rate annually. Employees are much satisfied with the company's unconscious-bias, diversity and training and development and employees feel that they have been valued for their work here.

  1. Agreed with you, Motivation is a group of different items which affect an employee's behaviour for getting the required goal. Motivation is important to encourage employees to perform well in long run and helps an organization to grow. Motivating employees is an uncertainly very complicated role of a manager. If employees are motivated, they will be satisfied with the jobs and if they are satisfied by their job then they will work hard to attain organizational goals and if goals are achieved then the organization will get profit (Zafar et al., 2014).

Managers always wanted to retain the most skilled, and talented employees from leaving and going to a competitor. Adding to your view employee career advancement can be considered as a vital factor in employee motivation which leads for enhanced employee engagement where the organizations should established employee career advancement as a policy of employee recognition to promote employee recognition and also secure the best interest of the organization towards achieving organizational objectives (Dim, Okeke and Nwankwo, 2020).

  4. Management should implement employee proposal schemes and use employee feedback to enhance the organizational context and satisfy their demands and facilities. Personalities are diverse, and they are motivated by various necessities, such as physiological requirements, security conditions, and financial needs. Therefore, concentrating on workers at all level of the company and investigating each division of the company will produce complete detailed knowledge about the requirements of employees (Adeola and Adebiyi, 2016)

    1. Management know the value of motivated employees and their effectiveness in increasing the productivity of the company. On the other hand unmotivated employees are unlikely to perform or even dodge the responsibilities. Therefore employees have been recognized with reward system and feedback appraisal in order to identify their pros and cons at the workplace, which can be used to motivate and engage individual and team performance effectively to attain the overall success of the organization (Adeola, 2016).

  8. Agree with you. Given the large investments in employee retention efforts within organizations, it is rational to identify, analyze and critique the motivation theories underlying employee retention in organizations. Low unemployment levels can force many organizations to re-examine employee retention strategies as part of their efforts to maintain and increase their competitiveness but rarely develop these strategies from existing theories(Ramlall,S., 2004).

  9. Yes, can agree with your view. Further I wish to highlight why motivation is important: any organization under optimal conditions needs to make use of efforts of employees and it should be increased and sustained. Further, when a job is delegated it cannot always be under supervision and should be maintained with consistency, Employees can become self motivated and perform and having motivated employees gives the organization competitive advantage (Hiriyappa, 2010).
